Developing your knowledge

“The work is exciting and provides real professional challenge, because we are always expanding the envelope for what previously been regarded as technically possible. At the same time, the company has a young image. On average, our engineers are only just over 30.”

This is how Torben Jacobsen – MSc in engineering and Director, Core Engineering – describes his work in the R&D department.

Michael Laverick, Senior Project Manager Product Development, explains:

“In LM Wind Power, you have lots of room for initiative and acting independently – there are great opportunities for getting absorbed in specific issues, and facilities to try out solutions. As an employee, this means you’re learning something new and continuously developing your knowledge.” 

Michael is BEng (Hons) Manufacturing Engineering and works with developing new blade designs while Torben works with increasing the rigidity and strength of the composite materials the blades are made of.

LM Wind Power has a large R&D organisation, with a staff of more than 100. The company has more specialist knowledge than any other blade manufacturer in the world in fields that include aerodynamics, blade construction, materials and manufacturing processes. The global manufacture and service operations are based on systematic technology transfer and quality assurance procedures. We operate manufacturing and sales companies in Asia, North America, Northern Europe and Southern Europe.

“For me, LM Wind Power’s international presence and focus are important,” says Engineer, Rikke Balle. “I’ve been abroad several times to help implement new production methods, and I am in touch with factories or customers from abroad every day. However, when I chose to work at LM Wind Power, it was also a plus that wind power is a ‘green’ source of energy.”

Rikke has recently tranferred to LM Wind Power Service & Logistics, where she works as Service Engineer.
